Kishwaukee Sunrise Hosts Taste of DeKalb!
The club hosted the Taste of DeKalb on September 23 in downtown DeKalb on the tail end of the Corn Classic 10k. The race ended near Van Buer Plaza, where food vendors and food trucks were already setting up for the day. By 10:00 am, runners and local residents alike were enjoying drinks and food in the plaza. A number of family-friendly activities were also on hand, including a bouncy house, Magic Matt and face painting provided by the DeKalb County Youth Services Bureau. Food was served throughout the day from vendors such as the Sycamore Country Market, Tinez Taco's, Tom and Jerry's of DeKalb, Ellwood Fish and Steak House, Betty Jean's Soul Food and the Greek Orthodox Church. Fatty's provided drinks as well.
Proceeds from sponsorships of the event went towards funding the club's annual community grant. Each year the club awards grant(s) up to $10,000 to local non-profit agencies who help children, youth and families in DeKalb County. This year, grant recipients were the DeKalb Public Library, Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois and Hope Haven. Thanks to the generous sponsors of this year's event, 2019 will see another round of grant dollars flow into the community.
